What is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner?

A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse with advanced academic and clinical education and experience. Nationally certified NPs hold a master's degree or higher. Nurse practitioners practice under the regulation of the Nurse Practice Act and are licensed by the State Education Department in New York State. Nurse practitioners are authorized to diagnose, treat, and prescribe in collaboration with a licensed physician.

A Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (PNPs) are very special health care providers who are dedicated to improving children's health. PNPs have advanced education in pediatric nursing and health care and they serve children and families in an extensive range of practice settings. Working with pediatricians and other health care providers, PNPs have been enhancing the health care of children for over thirty years.
