Christina Kim, MD

Christina Kim, MD

Dr. Kim is fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She joined PUA on November 1, 2016 after serving as medical director for pediatric urology at Connecticut Children's Medical Center for the past 12 years.

Dr. Kim completed medical school at the University of Wisconsin. Then she completed her urologic surgical training at the University of Connecticut. Subsequently, she completed her pediatric urology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.

Her greatest passion is performing advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery. She firmly believes in the benefits of faster recovery and desirable cosmesis with minimally invasive surgery.

In 2005, Dr. Kim performed the first robotic surgery on a child in the state of CT. She developed the robotic program at CT Children’s hospital and performed over 95% of the robotic cases for the past 12 years. She was the first surgeon to perform a robotic vaginoplasty in 2008. She performs a wide array of robotic cases (ureteral reimplantation, pyeloplasty, partial nephrectomy, calyceal diverticulectomy, bladder augmentation, and creation of catheterizable channels)

Due to her expertise, she serves as faculty in a wide range of robotic instructional courses. These courses are both national and international.

She encourages collaborative work amongst other institutions. She has researched and published data on robotic surgical outcomes, pain assessment, and teaching considerations in this field.

She started a pediatric urology fellowship program in 2011. In a competitive field, the fellowship program successfully matched every year.

During her time at CT Children’s hospital, she served as medical director for the department of pediatric urology. Under her leadership, the department expanded its presence to four satellite locations and began operating at multiple sites.

Additionally, the department began a wide arrange of multi-disciplinary clinics (such as a specialty clinic for patients with Posterior urethral valves, Stone disease, Disorders of sexual development, and prenatal care at three locations) She co-directed an innovative service line combining Urology-Nephrology.

She brings her enthusiasm and creativity to PUA. She is excited to provide a comprehensive spectrum of surgical care to her patients and families.
