Surgery Times

Surgeries are scheduled according to age order: youngest to oldest. Huntington Hospital will call you to tell you the time you need to arrive at the Pediatric Unit on the 1st floor. It is VERY important that you arrive at this time so that all paper work can be processed before the scheduled surgery time.

Feeding Instructions

The latest that your child can eat or drink is listed below. Food or liquids in your child’s stomach during surgery can be VERY DANGEROUS!!!. If you do not follow these instructions carefully your child’s surgery will be cancelled by anesthesia.
  • 2 ½ Hours before surgery: Clear Liquids: fluids you can see through (water, Pedialyte, Ginger Ale) NOT orange juice or chicken soup
  • 4 Hours before surgery: breast milk
  • 6 Hours before surgery: formula
  • 8 Hours before surgery: Everything else
Hospital requires that your child undergo a pre-operative testing visit. At that time, the anesthesia department will ask you questions, tell you what time surgery is scheduled, go over feeding instructions and determine if any blood work is necessary. If blood work is needed, the test will be performed there.

Medical Clearance: Huntington Hospital

Your child needs to be evaluated by the pediatrician 1-2 days prior to surgery. You must bring this clearance with you to the hospital on the day of surgery.
