Sylvia Toro, M.S.N., C.F.N.P.
Sylvia Toro, M.S.N., C.F.N.P., is nationally certified by American Nurse Credentialing Center as a Maternal-Child Nurse, and Family Nurse Practioner while remaining an active participant in its certification maintenance program. Ms. Toro has been a registered nurse since 1988 and an advanced practice registered nurse since 2001. She is proficient and fluent in Spanish.
She completed her undergraduate work at Mercy College, located in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., with honors. She then earned her masters degree in nursing from the College of New Rochelle, in New Rochelle, N.Y., receiving the distinguished Dean's Award.
Her diverse clinical practice experience spanning over 18 years, includes private practice, hospital settings, home care and nursing homes. She has a passion for excellence in caring for children and families.
Ms. Toro joined our practice in February 2002. She evaluates, diagnoses, and treats voiding dysfunction, incontinence, urinary tract infections, acute urological conditions and constipation for our patients in the Children's Center for Bladder Control. She also teaches biofeedback therapy, performs uroflowmetry and urodynamic studies. She has joined our research team as a clinical coordinator involved in carrying out pharmaceutical research projects to propose safety and efficacy of urological medications in the pediatric population.
What is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner?
A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse with advanced academic and clinical education and experience. Nationally certified NPs hold a master's degree or higher. Nurse practitioners practice under the regulation of the Nurse Practice Act and are licensed by the State Education Department in New York State. Nurse practitioners are authorized to diagnose, treat, and prescribe in collaboration with a licensed physician.
